HOW WORK OUR YOUR COSTS FOR SCREEN PRINTING
1) HOW T SHIRTS AND OTHER GARMENTS ARE SCREEN PRINTED
To Silk Screen yourgarments, a screen printer will require one screen ( or printing process plate ) for every colour in your design.
To create the screen he will also need one film for each silk screen stencil
These costs are known as your set up costs
When your garments go to the press each color is pinted utilising the different screens, so the more colors there are in the print the more screens or set-ups you will need, and the more print will cost.
Once your print is set up the printing cost per garment is also based on the number of colours in your pattern and the number of garments in the run
Let's look at an illustration
If you required a four colour print and the Set Up ( film and Silk Screen ) is $40.00 for every colour, each 4 colour print costs $7.00 each ( this print price ordinarily reduces with more quantity ) and you were to ask for 10 shirts, the shirts being $ 7.00 for each one, your expenditure would look similar to this.
Set up
4 Colors @ $40.00 per colour = $160.00
Printing
10 prints @ $7.00 for each print = $70.00
Shirts
10 Garments @ $ 7.00 = $ 70.00
Full price = $ 300.00 or $ 30.00 for every shirt
At this point let's take a crack at that with 100 T Shirts
Set up
4 Colour = @ 40.00 per colour = $ 160.
Printing
Now $ 4.00 each one so = $ 400.00
100 T Shirts = $ 7.00 = $ 700.00
Total for one hundred T Shirts is $ 1260.00 or $12.60 per shirt.
You can see a substantial change from $30.00 for every shirt for ten to $12.60 apiece shirt for one hundred.
This is due to the print rate per shirt is now cheaper, however for the most part your set up constituent for each shirt is now merely $ 1.60 not $ 16.00 as with the 10 shirts
Let's sample another example, this occasion simply using a one colour print.
(you will be surprised what can be done with a one colour print)
Set up
1 Colour @ $40.00 for every colour = $40.00
Printing
10 prints @ $ 6.70 per print = $67.50
Shirts
10 T Shirts @ $ 7.00 = $ 70.00
Complete charge for 10 one colour T Shirts $ 177.50 or $ 17.75 each shirt
Now again let's attempt this one with 100 T Shirts
Set up
1 Colour @ 40.00 for every colour = $ 40.00
Printing
Now $ 2.48 each so = $ 248.00
T Shirts = $ 700.00
Full outlay for 100 one colour T Shirts is $ 988.00 or $ 9.88 per shirt.
Yet again a wide difference from $ 17.75 for ten and $ 9.88 for one hundred.
Summary
10 T Shirts 4 colours $ 30.00 each
100 Shirts 4 colours $ 12.60 each one
10 Shirts 1 colour $ 17.75 each
100 Shirts 1 colour $ 9.88 each one
Aim to limit the number of colours in your motif to a bare minimum, above all with smaller runs. (you will be surprised what can be done with a one colour print)
